How it works

Our process is simple, below we've broken it down into 3 easy steps

1

DNA testing

If you haven't already taken a DNA test we recommend Ancestry DNA. Ancestry holds the largest database, giving you the highest number of possible matches. Once you’ve taken your test we then guide you through the process of uploading these results onto other platforms, giving you the greatest chance of making a high DNA match or for understanding your results. If you've already tested with another provider we will take a look at your results and guide you as to the next best step, sometimes testing again is the key to unlocking the answers.

2

Common ancestory

Our genealogists take on your search. Our professionals are trained researchers, who have decades of experience working with historic documents. Working quickly our genealogists can decipher and recognise patterns of change through their knowledge of social, economic, historic and geographic changes which are specific to their country of expertise.

To begin with the genealogist allocated to your case is looking for your common ancestor, the link that connects you to your third - 5th cousins. This is the Eureka moment and its worth celebrating. Our genealogists can then begin building your family tree, heading forwards in time to today.

Candidates on your tree will then be identified, then the detective work begins. Marriages, divorce, movement for work, moves abroad, these all need to be investigated until finally contact information is found, usually though the electoral roll or social media.

3

On going support

Once candidates have been identified we will then begin the process of supporting you as we begin contacting your biological family. Here we provide three key areas of support for your ongoing search.

Alongside our research team we have wonderful support workers who we can put you in touch with, they can help with any anxiety you may be feeling about your search and support you as you take the next steps.

We have pre prepared draft messages, that have worked successfully in the past, we use these for reaching out to biological family, using phrases and an outline approach that hopefully helps the family member to respond.

Encouragement. Too often a search will stall because it all feels overwhelming. Often biological family don't respond to messages and it can feel disheartening. This is our third area of support. We will be your cheerleading team. If you hit a brick wall with an unresponsive family member, we will try a way around this, a link to someone else who might be able to help. There is usually another path and we will continue to support you throughout your search.
